  • Overview

    Position Objective:

     

    The Adventure Recreation Intern will function as a team member of the Adventure department, serving a variety of roles including, but not limited, to: ropes course facilitator, recreation activities facilitator, learning administrative and program practices. The intern will assist the Recreation Manager to ensure high quality, impactful programs and experiential activities as offered by the Mount Hermon Adventures department in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


    Key Job Accountabilities:

    • Assist the Recreation Manager with administrative tasks in an organized and efficient manner.
    • Receive training to competently and safely facilitate, instruct, and maintain various quality adventure & recreation activities/programs with the prospect of attaining a leadership role in the following areas: static/dynamic challenge courses, teambuilding, kayaking, climbing walls, archery, gym/game rooms, surfing, and more (depending on skills and qualifications).
    • Assist in the Summer Staff hiring.
    • Under the Recreation Manager (during the summer months,) oversee and provide summer staff with a healthy and positive employment experience. May be asked to assist in training summer staff and supervise the facilitation of family camp activities pertaining to the Adventure/Recreation department.
    • Assist Recreation Manager in organizing and facilitating external and internal community programs (example: community youth basketball league).
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications

    General Qualifications:

    A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith. Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs. Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. Of strong moral character and integrity.

    Education/Certifications/Licenses:

    • College degree preferred but not required.
    • Current CPR, AED, First Aid certifications preferred (can/will be attained on the job).

    Work Experience:

    • Experience working on ropes/challenge courses is preferred but not required.
    • Experience with: kayaking, archery, climbing walls, surfing, and mountain-biking preferred but not required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Demonstrate great communication skills and ability to interact well with staff and guests; possessing the ability to respond to both with courtesy.
    • Mature understanding of camp guidelines and respect for authority and peers.
    • Ability to work with a team using good judgment and decision making skills.
    • Punctual and responsible.
    • Absolute attention to detail and safety.
    • Positive attitude that will provide guest satisfaction with all programs.
    • Ability to receive instruction as well as work independently and practice work-place initiative.
    • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
    • Lead by example in exercising and promoting an attitude of hospitality in all interactions with MHA guests and staff members.

    None

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to work in a physically strenuous environment. Requires standing for long periods of time, stooping, twisting, ability to lift/carry 50 lbs.
    • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside hot/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
    • Must be comfortable at heights exceeding 80 feet.
    • After training, employee must be able to rescue a 250 lb person from up to 80 feet above the ground using a variety of rescue techniques.

    Additional Requirements/Skills:

    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings, many weekends, and several holidays.
    • May be required to travel for summer staff recruiting & church promotions.
    • Will be required to participate in Summer Staff Program as a component of the Internship program.
    • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
    • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA's Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
    • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
