    Summer Staff - Organized Camp

    Position Objective:

    The Cook position is responsible for the kitchen operation at the assigned camp, including preparing, serving and storing food as directed by the Food Service Coordinator in a safe and efficient manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


    Key Job Accountabilities:

    • Complete menu as provided and instructed by the Food Service Director.
    • Pull, prepare, serve and store food in accordance with food handling procedures to ensure safe, nutritious meals for camps’ enjoyment and to prevent food spoilage and/or foodborne illness.
    • Maintain accurate records of refrigerators’ and freezers’ temperatures to ensure compliance with food service specifications.
    • Conduct inventory three times a week.
    • Clean ovens, grills and ventilation hood daily to ensure sanitary standards are maintained.
    • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Assistant cook(s)
    • Summer staff/students assigned to prepare meals.


    General Qualifications:

    A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.


    • Some college or more, dependent upon skills.
    • Food Handlers certificate or ServSafe certification.

    Work Experience:


    • Food Service industry experience preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to prepare meals in accordance with industry standards.
    • Ability to instruct and train others.
    • Knowledge and ability to use and maintain industrial kitchen equipment. 

    Key Job Accountabilities

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to lift 35-50 lbs.
    • This job may require lifting and carrying cases of canned goods, sacks of dry product, etc.

    Additional Requirements/Skills:


    • Days off will be flexed to meet the demand of the kitchen.  Extended hours sometimes required.
    • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
    • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
    • Flexibility in location:  during times when the kitchen does not have meals to prepare, this person may be asked to work one of the other kitchens, Outback or other areas of ministry.
    • Living onsite mandatory.
    • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
