Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:

 

The Kidder Creek Photographer & Media Specialist works under the direction of the Kidder Creek Associate Director and the Mount Hermon Lead Creative and is responsible for shooting, editing, and delivering photos of people, setting, activities and events, and editing photo related graphics, to accurately capture the ministry of Kidder Creek camps in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

The Kidder Creek Photographer works directly with the Kidder Creek Assistant Director, Lead Creative and Mount Hermon Photographer, alongside the Kidder Creek Videographer, supported by Kidder Creek Summer Staff community and Creative Services in Santa Cruz Mountains.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:        

 

  • Capture photos of summer at Kidder Creek, photographing camps, campers, activities, volunteers, staff and setting.
  • Catalog, edit, meta tag and publish daily selected photos from each camp.
  • Post daily stories and photos on social media sites (Instagram & Facebook).
  • Take, edit, order, pickup and assemble and deliver camp photos.
  • Catalog and meta tag and maintain ongoing photo database of digital images.
  • Support Kidder Creek Videographer with equipment, photo/video coverage, ideas, critique, transportation, troubleshooting and shot planning.
  • Assist Kidder Creek Videographer with assembling, duplicating and delivering weekly camp deliverables
  • Maintain and keep inventory of photography equipment, editing equipment and supplies.
  • Report any damage or poorly working equipment to Lead Creative and Kidder Creek Assistant Director immediately.
  • Capture and deliver headshots for ID and communications.
  • Work alongside the Kidder Creek Videographer to setup and run audio/video presentation systems as needed for programs.
  • Accompany, sign in/out campers on transportation bus to Santa Cruz every other weekend.
  • Attend all staff meetings and events.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas (including cabins, living areas, workspaces and supplies) clean and orderly.
  • Participate in and contribute to the broader Kidder Creek program.
  • Help build the summer staff community with your attitude, words, and actions.
  • Ensure smooth execution of the program specifically by being timely, prepared, and willing to assist with immediate and/or unforeseen needs.
  • Work on promotional projects as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

General Qualifications:

 

A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.

 

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate.
  • College experience preferred.
  • Formal photography training a preferred, but not required.

Work Experience:

  • Experience photographing a variety of subjects, where people their activities and their interactions are the primary focus.
  • A body of photography work that demonstrates a growing understanding of both the technical and creative sides of photography: light, composition, subject, moment, context, story, and emotion.
  • Experience and aptitude in photography workflows and editing. Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Adobe Creative Cloud preferred.
  • Experience and aptitude developing posts and engaging stories with photos for social media and other platforms.
  • Experience with Macintosh platform helpful but not required.
  • Experience working with professional level photography equipment preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work comfortably with the tools of photography, specifically modern, professional level bodies, lenses, and related equipment.
  • Understanding of photography fundamentals
  • Ability to capture a variety of subject matter including people, action sports, events, every-day life, posed groups and individuals, nature and environmental portraiture.
  • Ability to shoot subjects both posed/directed and candid/documentary.
  • Ability to catalog, edit, meta tag and publish photos on a daily basis.
  • Ability to tell a story and describe an event through photography.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding workflow.
  • Ability to work alone as well as in a team.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability and desire to receive feedback and incorporate it into future work.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and ability to follow through with tasks punctually and with high degree of quality.
  • Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
  • Must be observant and attentive.
  • Can articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Has a mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:

 

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking long distances on varied terrain, swimming, climbing, shouting. Ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15 to over 60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children and students. Position also requires ability to hear, speak and see clearly in adverse conditions. Requires participation in roped adventure activities, and other activities involving height.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Will be required to drive to various adventure and river locations. Valid Class C drivers’ license and clean driving record for the past two years required.
