Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:


Mount Hermon Photographers are responsible for photographing people, setting activities and events, and editing photo related graphics to accurately capture the ministry of the Conference Center, Redwood Camp and Ponderosa Lodge through visual images in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


The Photographer works directly with the Site Supervisor specific to their site, Lead Creative and Mount Hermon Photographer, and alongside the site specific Videographer, and other site photographers and is supported by the site specific Summer Staff community and Creative Services.


Key Job Accountabilities:       

  • Capture photos of summer at Mount Hermon, photographing camps, campers, activities, volunteers, staff and setting.
  • Catalog, edit, meta tag and publish daily selected photos from each camp.
  • Catalog and meta tag and maintain ongoing photo database of digital images.
  • Maintain, clean and protect photography and editing equipment, ensuring high quality reliable capture.
  • Keep inventory of photography equipment, editing equipment and supplies.
  • Undertake photo assignments as designated by Lead Creative.
  • Report any damage or poorly working equipment to Lead Creative and Creative Services immediately.
  • Schedule and photograph weekly all camp photo, cabin and group photos, headshot photos. (Exact responsibilities specific to Redwood Camp, Ponderosa Lodge or Conference Center.)
  • Deliver content for daily stories and photos on social media sites (Exact responsibilities specific to Redwood Camp, Ponderosa Lodge or Conference Center.)
  • Work alongside site specific Videographer to coordinate equipment, plan photo/video coverage, discuss ideas, critique work, plan transportation, troubleshoot problems.
  • Work alongside other site photographers to coordinate equipment, discuss ideas, critique work, plan transportation, troubleshoot problems and further develop photography related skills.
  • Attend all staff meetings and events.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping work environment clean and orderly.
  • Participate in and contribute to the broader Mount Hermon program.
  • Help build the summer staff community with your attitude, words, and actions.
  • Ensure smooth execution of the program specifically by being timely, prepared, and willing to assist with immediate and/or unforeseen needs.
  • Work on promotional projects as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisors.

General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.




  • High school graduate.
  • College experience.
  • Formal photography training a preferred, but not required.

Work Experience:

  • Experience photographing a variety of subjects, where people their activities and their interactions are the primary focus.
  • A body of photography work that demonstrates a growing understanding of both the technical and creative sides of photography: light, composition, subject, moment, context, story, and emotion.
  • Experience and aptitude in photography workflows and editing. Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Adobe Creative Cloud preferred.
  • Experience and aptitude developing posts and engaging stories with photos for social media and other platforms.
  • Experience with Macintosh platform helpful but not required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work comfortably with the tools of photography, specifically modern, professional level bodies, lenses, and related equipment.
  • Understanding of photography fundamentals.
  • Ability to capture a variety of subject matter including people, action sports, events, every-day life, posed groups and individuals, nature and environmental portraiture.
  • Ability to shoot subjects both posed/directed and candid/documentary.
  • Ability to catalog, edit, meta tag and publish photos on a daily basis.
  • Ability to tell a story and describe an event through photography.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding workflow.
  • Ability to work alone as well as in a team.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability and desire to receive feedback and incorporate it into future work.
  • Must demonstrate initiative and ability to follow through with tasks punctually and with high degree of quality.
  • Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills with people of all ages.
  • Must be observant and attentive.
  • Can articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Has a mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:


The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking on varied terrain, swimming, climbing, shouting. Ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15 to over 30 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children and students. Position also requires ability to hear, speak and see clearly in adverse conditions. Requires participation in roped adventure activities, and other activities involving height.
