    Summer Staff - Organized Camp

    Position Objective:


    Redwood Camp Counselors are responsible to model a genuine Christian lifestyle to primary and junior youth, providing campers safety and well-being while befriending campers to nurture spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


    Key Job Accountabilities:      

    • Responsible for the physical and spiritual welfare of campers through discipline and guidance of campers.
    • Responsible to coordinate with Core Leadership and Camp Director in the implementation of a variety of camp activities and curriculum including but not limited to leading small group Bible studies.
    • Responsible to lead and assist in crafts, music, drama, group games, etc.
    • Responsible to share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas including workspaces and supplies clean and orderly.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.


    Supervisory Responsibilities:


    • None.



    General Qualifications:


    A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith. Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs. Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. Of strong moral character and integrity.




    • High school graduate.
    • 1 year of college experience preferred.
    • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

    Work Experience:


    • Preferred previous experience working with primary and junior youth.
    • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles in camp settings. 

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


    • Love for children of all ages is essential.
    • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
    • Must be able to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
    • Motivated and able to lead with empathy and discipline.
    • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.
    • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

    Key Job Accountabilities


    Physical Demands:


    The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children and youth. 


    Additional Requirements:

    • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
    • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
