Summer Staff - Organized Camp

CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITY - Mount Hermon's Lifeguard Certification will be available June 4 - June 7, 2018 at MH's Conference Center pool for hired or interested candidates.  Cost is $150 for the course and certification.  Housing and meals will be provided for individuals already hired on Summer Staff '18.


Position Objective:


Lifeguards provide instruction, supervision, and ensure the safety and well-being of all campers and staff involved in all water-based activities, at Mount Hermon and off site, in a professional and productive manner. If lifeguard duties fulfilled, will work to assist the Caterer in the preparation, delivering, serving, and cleaning of all organized meals at Redwood Camp in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Responsible to assist Head Caterer to provide transportation, preparation, and serving of meals from Conference Center to Redwood Camp.
  • Ensures that Main Kitchen has all details regarding meals with sufficient time.
  • Responsible to prepare serving equipment for outdoor and off-site scheduled meals.
  • Assigns duties to catering crew to ensure all needs are fulfilled.
  • Facilitate and maintain clean and sanitary food service areas and equipment.
  • Responsible for safe operation, cleanliness, and reporting of any damage regarding the catering van.
  • As a Lifeguard is responsible to act as a first responders in events of injury.
  • Responsible provide a safe environment (physically, mentally, and emotionally) for guests to enjoy aquatic activities.
  • Accountable for upholding and enforcing pool rules to ensure safety of all using the pool.
  • Responsible to assist Aquatics Coordinator and other lifeguards with daily, weekly, and monthly pool maintenance.
  • Responsible to maintain, document and report any damaged operating equipment and facilities
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

  • None.


General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith. Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs. Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. Of strong moral character and integrity. 




  • High school graduate.
  • College experience.
  • Must be CPR for the professional rescuer or equivalent.
  • Must be First Aid certified.
  • Must attend Mount Hermon's Lifeguard Certification course on 6/4-6/7/18 OR have Lifeguard Certifications completed prior to start date.

  • Must possess a current driver’s license.

Work Experience:


  • Prior lifeguard experience is necessary.
  • Preferred food service experience.

  • Able to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Able to engage in active listening.
  • Able to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Must be able to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
