    Summer Staff - Organized Camp

    CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITY - Mount Hermon's Lifeguard Certification will be available June 4 - June 7, 2018 at MH's Conference Center pool for hired or interested candidates.  Cost is $150 for the course and certification.  Housing and meals will be provided for individuals already hired on Summer Staff '18.


    Position Objective:


    Ensures the safety and well-being of campers and staff swimming, kayaking, and surfing.  Responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship, providing for campers with an experience that lines up with the Mount Hermon Youth vision and Ponderosa’s objectives in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


    Key Job Accountabilities:

    • Assist in the intake and screening of campers weekly.
    • Assist with transportation of campers to health clinic or hospital.
    • Ensure safety and well-being of all campers and staff using the pools, while enforcing pool rules within discipline philosophy of Mount Hermon Youth.
    • Care and maintenance of all pool areas, keeping logs and readings accurate and up to date. Promptly report any hazards or dangerous situations to the water specialist.
    • Any other duties as assigned by the Water Specialist.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: 

    • None.


    General Qualifications:


    A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs. Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. Of strong moral character and integrity.



    • College experience preferred.
    • Possess a minimum of ARC CPR (infant, child, adult), AED and First Aid.
    • Prefer advanced certifications, such as open water certification, FR, EMT, American Canoe Association, kayak instructor plus junior guard, ocean guard of surfing experience.
    • Must attend Mount Hermon's Lifeguard Certification course on 6/4-6/7/18 OR have Lifeguard Certifications completed prior to start date.
    • Anatomy, physiology, and nursing or medical technician course work.
    • Valid driver’s license. 

    Work Experience:

    • Prior lifeguard experience. 

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
    • Ability to demonstrate a personal, committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
    • Kayak, surfing or ocean guarding preferred.
    • Ability to serve others in a gracious, caring manner.
    • Excellent administrative skills and attention to detail.
    • Able to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.

    Key Job Accountabilities

    Physical Demands:

    • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
    • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
    • The employee is frequently required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl
    • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
    • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
    • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

    Additional Requirements:

    • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
    • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
