Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:


The Kidder Recreation/Aquatics Lead will primarily supervise and manage all waterfront and recreation staff activities at Kidder Creek. Secondarily, he or she will assist the Timberline program to ensure that campers have an experience that lines up with Mount Hermon Kidder Creek’s vision and objectives in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities:


  • Supervise and manage all recreation and waterfront staff.
  • Schedule staff to cover shifts in areas you supervise.
  • Oversee use logs and equipment records.
  • Care and maintenance of all recreation and waterfront equipment and areas, including daily and regular inspections, and timely reports of damaged or broken items.
  • Lead in-service trainings for waterfront and recreation activities.
  • Ensure the safety of all campers during activities you supervise.
  • Empower, lead, and train staff in waterfront and recreation events to ensure cabin activities run smoothly and timely.
  • Lead camper debriefs and relate activities and experiences to applicable Biblical truth.
  • Assist the program through kitchen and maintenance help.
  • Attend all staff meetings and events.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas (including cabins, living areas, workspaces and supplies) clean and orderly.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the broader camp program both within and outside the areas you manage.
  • Actively engage and help build the summer staff community with your attitude, words, and actions.
  • Ensure smooth execution of the program specifically by being on time, prepared, and willing to assist with immediate and/or unforeseen needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lifeguards.


General Qualifications:

A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.



  • At least 2 years college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR for the Professional Rescuer/First Aid certified prior to arriving at camp.
  • Must be waterfront lifeguard certified prior to arriving at camp.

Work Experience:


  • Prior experience working with elementary, junior high and/or high school students.
  • Experience with lifeguarding and/or recreation activities preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Prior camp counseling experience preferred.

  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal, committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
  • Positive role model, listener, enthusiastic leader, and friend.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through, creative and able to adjust to challenges of the program.
  • Able to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing job assignments and schedules with short notice.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:


  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Requires lifting and transporting 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs.
  • Requires employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, cables, and trees using hands and feet.  
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl.
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio.
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.


Additional Requirements/Skills:


  • Willingness to drive campers in camp vehicles. Valid Class C drivers’ license and clean driving record for the past two years.
  • Assist in service needs (maintenance, food service, housekeeping) at camp as assigned by the Kidder Creek leadership team.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
