Overview

Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:

 

The Kidder Creek Mountain (“Mt”) Bike Camps Guide is responsible to lead campers in the Mt Bike Programs to ensure that campers have fun, safe and missional adventure experiences in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Shred Gnar with campers while teaching them to send it responsibly and progressively.
  • Transport campers to and from offsite camp activities.
  • Ensure the safety of all campers at all times to the best of your ability.
  • Be responsible for the implementation of the spiritual curriculum of mt bike camps as assigned by the lead and as part of your counselor duties.
  • Impart your knowledge, skills and passion of biking to campers and staff.
  • Lead debriefs with campers and relate activities and experiences to applicable Biblical truth.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the broader camp program both on and off KC ensuring a smooth execution of the program specifically by being on time, prepared and willing to assist with immediate and/or unforeseen needs.
  • Actively engage and help build the summer staff community with your attitude, words, and actions.
  • Attend all required staff meetings and events.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications

General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.

 

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • At least 1 year college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/WFA certified prior to arriving at camp. WFR or WAFA certification is preferred.
  • IMBA Mt Bike Coach Training Preferred.
  • Current valid Class C driver’s license.

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience working with elementary, junior high school students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal, committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
  • Positive role model, listener, enthusiastic leader, and friend.
  • Follow-through, creative, flexible and able to adjust to challenges of the program.
  • Able to engage in a variety of outdoor activities and demonstrate sound judgement.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing job assignments and schedules with short notice.
  • Prior Biking experience required; ability the shred the gnarly trails while giving campers someone to look up to.
  • Basic Bike maintenance skills required.

 

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:

 

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to be in the sun for extended periods of time.

Additional Requirements/Skills:

 

  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Willingness to drive campers in camp vehicles. Valid Class C driver's’ license and clean driving record for the past two years.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas including cabins, living areas, workspaces and supplies clean and orderly. Assist in service needs (maintenance, foodservice, housekeeping) at camp as assigned by the Kidder Creek Leadership team.
