Overview

Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:

Kidder Creek Counselor/Lifeguards are responsible to model a genuine lifestyle of Christian discipleship, providing for campers’ safety and well-being while befriending and nurturing spiritual growth through program activities, curriculum and lifeguarding campers and staff during all water-based activities to ensure that campers have a camp experience in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Responsible to live with and lead approx. 7-8 campers each week. Lead small group Bible studies.
  • Seek out and connect to campers guiding them spiritually through activities and curriculum.
  • Ensure safety and well-being of all campers and staff during water-based activities, enforcing rules within discipline philosophy of Mount Hermon and Kidder Creek.
  • Attend all staff meetings and events.
  • Share in the responsibilities of keeping camp areas (including cabins, living areas, workspaces and supplies) clean and orderly.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to the broader program, serving in both your primary and secondary roles with enthusiasm.
  • Actively engage and help build the summer staff community with your attitude, words, and actions.
  • Ensure smooth execution of the program specifically by being on time, prepared, and willing to assist with immediate and/or unforeseen needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

  • None.

Qualifications

General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • At least 1 years college experience preferred.
  • Possess a minimum of CPR for the Professional Rescuer (infant, child, adult), AED and First Aid prior to arriving to camp.
  • Possess waterfront lifeguard certification prior to arriving at camp.

 Work Experience:

 

  • Prior experience working with students of varying ages.
  • Previous lifeguard experience, waterfront preferred.
  • Prior camp counseling experience preferred.

  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Ability to demonstrate a personal, committed and thought-through faith in Christ.
  • Positive role model, listener, enthusiastic leader, and friend.
  • Possess creativity, willingness to learn and ability to teach and lead Bible studies.
  • Able to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • Attention to detail and follow-through, creative and able to adjust to challenges of the program.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing job assignments and schedules with short notice.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:

 

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • The employee is frequently required to run, swim, stand, sit for long periods and use steep trails and stairs.
  • The employee is frequently required climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl
  • The physical environment requires the employee to talk and hear both in person from close and long distances and by phone or radio
  • The employee may be required to lift, push or pull persons or equipment over 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, use of both eyes, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades; depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to be in the sun for extended periods of time.

 

Additional Requirements/Skills:

 

  • Will be assigned secondary assignments and rotation week assignments to lifeguarding, recreation, transportation and/or housekeeping duties.
  • Assist in service needs (maintenance, food service, and housekeeping) at camp as assigned by the Kidder Creek leadership team.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
