Overview

Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:

 

Youth Band/Counselors are responsible to lead worship for all youth camps and several additional sessions as well as model a genuine Christian lifestyle to junior high and high school campers, providing campers’ safety and well-being nurturing spiritual growth in order to lead students one step closer to Jesus, in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values. (Applicants must be part of a previously formed band. All members must apply separately for position. Please no bands exceeding 4 members.)

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

           

  • Responsible to work as a team with the Conference Center Youth Lead to prepare and preform worship sets for Youth camps and additional functions which includes but is not limited to staff meetings.
  • Responsible for counselor responsibilities as follows:
    • Responsible to act as mentor to male and female students, engaging in spiritual mentoring and Bible studies.
    • Lead a daily small group of students reinforcing the daily objectives of the youth program.
    • Responsible for the physical and spiritual welfare of campers through discipline and guidance of campers.
    • Responsible to plan, lead, and assist in all elements of the program.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

 

  • None.

Qualifications

General Qualifications:

 

A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs. Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. Of strong moral character and integrity.

 

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

 

  • High school graduate.
  • College experience, preferred 2 years.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:

 

  • Prior or current experience working with junior high or high school students.
  • Prior camp counseling experience preferred.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to play guitar, bass, piano, or drums and  able to lead students in musical worship in a relevant and interactive manner.
  • Preferred previous experience working with junior high or high school students.
  • Love for youth of all ages is essential; capable of providing strong Christian role model.
  • Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:

 

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, and hiking.

 

Additional Requirements:

 

  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
