Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:

Deputy Chief of Staff is responsible to assist Chief of Staff with training weeks and first 5 weeks of summer.  Deputy will then take over leadership of the Summer Staff for the final 4 weeks of camp.  Chief of Staff and Deputy Chief of staff will work together to Initiate interactions with staff and supervisors to promote smooth execution of summer staff roles, motivate and focus staff throughout summer toward ministry goals, and promote general well being of summer staff.  Deputy will also act as Staff Counselor.  Staff Counselors are responsible to support the emotional, personal, and spiritual well-being of Summer Staff, by overseeing staff community living in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Responsible to model a genuine Christian lifestyle, encouraging and nurturing Summer Staff to serve in a selfless manner to all departments.
  • Partner with Chief of Staff to provide leadership to summer staff through staff meetings, in-service trainings, etc.
  • In partnership with Chief of Staff, Coordinate with supervisor’s facilitation of summer staff roles.
  • Responsible to organize, facilitate, and communicate social and recreational events for Summer Staff building community through healthy interactions.
  • Enforce community standards to ensure a harmonious living environment.
  • Assist in departments as opportunities arise, working alongside Summer Staff and facilitating high performance in each area of assignment.
  • Coordinate with all Staff Counselors, partnering in leadership with the Chief of Staff, responsibility for specific staff development assignments to encourage community growth.
  • Responsible to organize, coordinate, and supervise custodial support for dorms ensuring a clean living environment.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with Chief of Staff, oversee other 4 Staff Counselors.


General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith. Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs. Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization. Of strong moral character and integrity.



  • High school graduate.
  • College graduate preferred.
  • Graduate work in a ministry or human services related field preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Preferred previous experience working with college age students in ministry settings.
  • Must possess leadership skills and emotional and spiritual maturity.
  • Must possess a developed sense of empathy.
  • Must be willing to take initiative.
  • Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must be flexible with an ability to adjust and problem solve in challenging situations.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever needed.


Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, and hiking.

  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.

  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
