Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:

 

Assist the Family Camp Children’s Ministry Coordinator (FCCMC) in overseeing and leading the Day Camp program and its staff. Help provide guidance and organization of program activities and curriculum to provide structure and stability to the Day Camp team. Create an environment that fosters safety and spiritual growth in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

 

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Assist the FCCMC in organizing, documenting, and facilitating the Childcare program and staff’s general well-being.
  • Provide leadership for staff through training, team-building, and clear and tidy communication.
  • Coordinate with Day Camp staff to implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum.
  • In conjunction with the FCCMC, supervise and evaluate the Day Camp staff: counselors, assistant leads, and worship specialist.
  • Maintain all records as directed by the FCCMC.
  • Be available to parents to discuss issues or concerns providing clean and open communication regarding their child/children’s well-being with special attention to health, safety, and discipline.
  • Be sensitive to the Day Camp staff’s personal needs and organize events for team building, communication, and fun.
  • Facilitate morning devotions and sharing that allows Day Camp staff the opportunity to support and encourage one another on a daily or bi-weekly basis.
  • Aid the FCCMC in grade group assignments, supply ordering, keeping the staff informed, etc.
  • Work with Assistant Leads to ensure each has ideas, materials, and weekly/daily plan.
  • Keep FCCMC informed about any needs, problems, joys, or unusual situations.
  • Organize the cleaning and upkeep procedures for building and motivate staff to make improvements wherever possible.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the FCCMC and leadership team.
  • Notify FCCFC when things are need from Creative Services.
  • Coordinate with Staff Counselors what their role will be (fostering summer staff community relationships with each summer staffer.)
  • Organize and maintain work areas and supplies to ensure they are clean, orderly and fully stoked.
  • In conjunction with FCCMC, responsible for the physical and spiritual welfare of campers through discipline and guidance of children.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Day Camp Counselors.
  • Day Camp Assistant Lead.
  • Day Camp Worship Specialist.

Qualifications

General Qualifications:

 

A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.

 

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

 

  • High school graduate.
  • Some college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:

 

  • Prior experience with Day Camp is preferred.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles in camp settings. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Possess intuition, and the ability to take initiative.
  • Possess leadership and observational qualities.
  • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.
  • Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must be creative, detail oriented and have the ability to follow through with projects.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:

 

The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children. 

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
