Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:


The Day Camp Assistant Lead works to assist Family Camp Children’s Ministry Coordinator (FCCMC) and Day Camp Team Lead (“Team Lead”) to oversee and lead Day Camp Counselors in providing activities and logistics for primary youth to nurture spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum. Also acts as Day Camp Counselor and is responsible to model a genuine Christian lifestyle to primary youth, safeguard campers’ safety and well-being while befriending campers to nurture spiritual growth through program activities and curriculum in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities:           

  • Assist in providing staff leadership through training, team building, and constant communication under the direction of Team Lead and FCCMC.
  • Coordinate and distribute daily program schedule with team of counselors including, but not limited to, Bible studies, activities, and cleaning chores.
  • Ensure the physical and spiritual welfare of campers through discipline and guidance of campers.
  • Coordinate with Team Lead and other Assistant Leads to implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum.
  • Responsible for counseling a group of children.
  • Lead and assist in Crafts, music, drama, group games, etc.
  • Share in the responsibility of keeping camp areas, including workspaces and supplies, clean and orderly.
  • Meet with FCCMC and leadership team weekly.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Day Camp Counselors.


General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs.  Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.




  • High school graduate.
  • Some college experience preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:


  • Prior experience with Day Camp is preferred.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles in camp settings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.
  • Ability to articulate gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must be creative, detail oriented and have the ability to follow through with projects.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to engage in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • A heart to serve whenever.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:


The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children. 


Additional Requirements:


  • Will be assigned a secondary role as required for all Summer Staff.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
