Summer Staff - Organized Camp

Position Objective:


Assist the Family Camp Children’s Ministry Coordinator (FCCMC) in overseeing and leading the Childcare program and staff. Help provide guidance and organization of program activities and curriculum to provide structure and stability to the Childcare team. Create an environment that fosters safety and spiritual growth in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.


Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Assist the FCCMC in organizing, documenting, and facilitating the Childcare program and staff’s general well being.
  • Provide leadership for staff through training, team-building, and clear and tidy communication.
  • Coordinate with Childcare staff to implement a variety of camp activities and curriculum.
  • In conjunction with the FCCMC, supervise and evaluate the Child Care staff: counselors, assistant leads, and child care assistants.
  • Maintain all records as directed by the FCCMC.
  • Be available to parents to discuss issues or concerns providing clean and open communication regarding their child/children’s well-being with special attention to health, safety, and discipline.
  • Be sensitive to the Childcare staff’s personal needs and organize events for team building, communication, and fun.
  • Facilitate morning devotions and sharing that allows Childcare staff the opportunity to support and encourage one another on a daily or bi-weekly basis.
  • Aid the FCCMC in classroom assignments, supply ordering, keeping the staff informed, etc.
  • Work with Assistant Leads to ensure each has ideas, materials, and weekly/daily plan.
  • Keep FCCMC informed about any needs, problems, joys, or unusual situations.
  • Order supplies from Food Service, paper from mailroom, and other miscellaneous supplies with approval from the FCCMC.
  • Organize the cleaning and upkeep procedures for each classroom and motivate Childcare staff to make improvements wherever possible.
  • Before every session open the office computer for Childcare Assistants.
  • Attend weekly meetings with the FCCMC and leadership team.
  • Notify FCCMC when forms are needed from Creative Services.
  • Coordinate with Staff Counselors what their role will be (fostering summer staff community relationships with each child care summer staff).
  • Assist in and support other Children’s Ministry program activities, duties or other areas as requested by FCCMC.
  • Organize and maintain work areas and supplies to ensure they are clean, orderly and fully stocked.
  • In conjunction with the FCCMC, responsible for the physical and spiritual welfare of campers through discipline and guidance of children.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Childcare Team Assistant Leads.
  • Childcare Counselors.
  • Child Care Assistants.


General Qualifications:


A mature follower of Jesus, still growing and developing in their faith.  Fully in accord with Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (“MHA”) mission, vision, values and statement of beliefs. Committed to living these out personally, and instilling them in the organization.  Of strong moral character and integrity.




  • High school graduate.
  • Some college experience preferred.
  • Preferred college credits in Preschool education. 
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:


  • Prior experience with working with children in ministry settings.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership roles in childcare setting. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Ability to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and possess problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred previous experience working with children.
  • Ability to articulate the gospel of Jesus Christ as communicated in Scripture.
  • Mature understanding and respect for authority and peers, as well as camp guidelines and principles.
  • Must possess intuition and the ability to take initiative.
  • Must possess leadership and observational skills.
  • Must be creative, detail-oriented, with the ability to follow through with projects.
  • A heart to serve whenever.

Key Job Accountabilities

Physical Demands:


The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Requires sitting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting, hiking, shouting, ability to lift/carry anywhere from 15-60 lbs., and engage in general physical play with children. 


Additional Requirements:


  • Will be assigned a secondary role as required for all Summer Staff.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in Mount Hermon’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation, or valid work permit, as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
